‘A 가’ has 3 characters including the space, 2 excluding it, and 5 UTF-8 bytes. “Characters (no spaces)” removes only ordinary ASCII spaces (U+0020); “Characters (no whitespace)” also removes tabs, line breaks, and other JavaScript whitespace. Bytes measure the UTF-8 encoded text, not the character count.
With Intl.Segmenter, characters are counted as grapheme clusters: 👩🏽💻 is 1 character, 15 UTF-8 bytes, and 7 UTF-16 units. Both é and e + U+0301 (combining acute accent) count as 1 character, but use 2 and 3 UTF-8 bytes respectively. Without Intl.Segmenter, the tool counts code points instead, so combining characters and ZWJ emoji can produce different counts.
